Amsterdam lives on the IJ

With the development of the South Bank of the IJ, Amsterdam is acquiring a new inner city area. The first contours of how it will be eventually are already clearly visible: a lively mix of living, working and other activities. The South bank of the IJ consists of six islands, each with its own character. Each island has a particular combination of functions. Housing, work, culture, transport, trade: it can all be found along the IJ. A total of more than 2400 residences and some 400.000 m2 of office and business space will be located in this varied area.

The accessibility of the city centre is excellent thanks to the construction of new connections and the improvement of existing routes. Driving through the Piet Heijntunnel, the South Bank of the IJ is only 5 minutes from the Amsterdam Ring road A10. Almost every building on the Sout Bank of the IJ has its own parking garage, often a combination of public and private use.
